Huawei HarmonyOS smartphone upgrade plan allegedly leaked [First Batch List]

Huawei is set to launch its operating system, HarmonyOS AKA Hongmeng OS in April for mobile devices and the company at the same will also reveal its strategy for HarmonyOS and its launch in different new as well as old devices.

At the event, the Chinese tech giant is likely to reveal the roadmap to upgrade existing Huawei devices to the HarmonyOS platform. As usual, the flagship models will get the first slot in the upgrade process.

HarmonyOS mobile beta testing began after the launch of HarmonyOS 2.0 at HDC 2020. The testing initially started for developers with the recruitment of the Huawei P40, Mate 30, and MatePad Pro devices and after the registrations, the company served HarmonyOS mobile beta OTA for the registered developers.

At the launch of the Huawei Mate X2 foldable phone, the company announced that the first batch of devices will include this phone and there will be more models that will make their way to the latest Huawei OS.

Recently, Huawei pushed the second HarmonyOS mobile beta for the developers and it’s likely that the company may soon release the third developer beta before launching the public beta programs for general consumers in April.

Related to this, a tipster previously shared a model adaptation based on the Kirin processor, which suggests a list of support devices that will install HarmonyOS but the fact is we still don’t have an official confirmation on this matter. Read more in the link below:

Editor’s Pick: HarmonyOS upgrade plan for Huawei phones suggested again, might cover devices even with Kirin 710 chipset [List]

However, we not got a new leak that allegedly exposes Huawei’s plan to upgrade or test the first batch of Huawei devices. This leak is coming from the Chinese social network site, Weibo, and listed the following models in the first batch of HarmonyOS upgrade.

  • Huawei Mate X2
  • Huawei Mate 40
  • Huawei Mate 40 Pro
  • Huawei Mate 40 Pro+
  • Huawei P40
  • Huawei P40 Pro
  • Huawei P40 Pro+

Release According to the chipset:

The information further explains that the company will roll out HarmonyOS to EMUI 11 and Magic UI 4 devices and the time of the rollout for these phones will depend on their chipset. This could mean that the rollout will start in descending order, with flagship chipset will be considered to upgrade first and then middle range and so on.

All of the Huawei and Honor phones will receive HarmonyOS but Honor phones such as Honor V40 are currently not considered for this adaptation process because it was launched after Honor and Huawei separation.

Direct Rollout:

Aside from the eligible models, some phones will directly jump to the HarmonyOS mobile even with only EMUI 10.1 and Magic UI 3.1 builds. These include devices such as Huawei Nova 7 SE, Honor 30S, Honor X10, and more.

Moreover, Huawei phones that were launched with MediaTek processors, are currently not considered under the upgrade plan but this decision may change later and the official announcement may clear some more doubts.

One thing to note here, that the above-mentioned leaked information cannot be confirmed as official.

Initially announced at Huawei Developer Conference 2019, HarmonyOS is a microkernel-based operating system that enables smart connection among different devices and provides a seamless cross-device user experience.

This year, Huawei is planning big with HarmonyOS and expected to install it on as many as devices possible. According to Wang Chenglu, President of Huawei Consumer Business Software Department, HarmonyOS will install in 300 million devices in 2021, of which, 200 million would be only smartphones and the rest will account for tablets, wearables, car systems, smart home appliances, and other third-party devices.
