Huawei has begun the public testing of Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) and HMS Core applications, which is a big step towards the release of complete HMS services and applications as well as replacement of Google Mobile Services (GMS).

HMS is a set of applications and services developed by Huawei for its device ecosystem, such services include Huawei ID (Account), Payment services, Message Notification, Virtual Wallet, Security Verification and more.

The HMS Core Test is an application package of 6 HMS basic service apps containing:

  • Game (Game app)
  • Fido&Safety (Authentication Service)
  • Purchase (In-App Purchase)
  • Identity (User Identity Verification Service)
  • Scan (Unified Code Scanning Service)
  • ML (Machine Learning Service)

These services will be installed in the background and a shortcut/placeholder icons will appear to allow users to select which app they want to install and test. To install application users need to click on the icon of the app and the system will launch a prompt to confirm the installation.

In addition to these test applications, Huawei yet to introduce its other HMS powered apps – Maps, locations services, IoT support and more.

For your information, the HMS Core Kit grants developers access to 24 HMS Core kits, 55 services, and 997 APIs. Such as In-app purchases (IAP), Account Login and Game services, Push notifications, Analytics, Monetization, Maps, Location and more.

Notably, the Huawei Mobile Services version is “4.0.0.203” while the stable version still runs on 3.0.3.301, clearly shows a complete version Jump and improvements that have been made in the whole system applications ecosystem.

On the other hand, Huawei Mobile Services pre-installs applications including the following:

  • Huawei AppGallery
  • Huawei Browser
  • Huawei Mobile Cloud
  • Huawei Themes
  • Huawei Music
  • Huawei Video
  • Huawei Reader
  • Huawei Assistant and more

At the moment, the test above is available only for the Chinese consumers and Huawei has not announced the official date to launch the suite of HMS application but an executive from the company just revealed that Huawei Mobile Services and HMS System Apps will be available by the end of 2019.
