New Kirin 8 series chip to launch by the end of this year

After an explosive launch of Kirin 9000s, Huawei is now preparing to launch the new Kirin 8 series chip by the end of this year, says a tipster.

SmartPikachu from the Chinese microblogging site – Weibo has shared input that Huawei will launch a new Kirin 8 series chipset by the end of this year. This is quite surprising as this chip could come under the mid-range product category.

The tipster also added that the company could optimize some of its features for higher efficiency. From past predictions and reports, the next 8 series chip in line is the Kirin 830, the company already launched the Kirin 810 and 820 successfully around the US ban in 2019. Both of these are produced with TSMC’s processing technology.

But the new chip will be produced at home with Huawei’s own technologies. Let’s take a look at the past two Kirin 8 series chipsets.

Kirin 810:

In June 2019, Huawei launched the Kirin 810 chip with TSMC’s 7nm tech. This is an octa-core chip including two high-performance Cortex A76 cores at 2.27GHz and six A55 cores at 1.88 GHz clock rate. The chip equips Mali G52 GPU. On the other hand, Huawei used its own Da Vinci NPU unit in this processor.

Kirin 820:

In April 2020 Huawei brought Kirin 820, It was also processed with 7nm TSMC technology including 5G SA/NSA connectivity standards. The octa-core architecture of this chip consists of one Cortex-A76 core clocked at 2.36GHz, three Cortex-A76 cores at 2.22GHz, and four Cortex-A55 at 1.84GHz.

The chip serves a 6-core Mali-G57 GPU with Kirin Gaming+ 2.0. It comes with an upgraded NPU unit comprised of Da Vinci Architecture. Compared to its predecessor, the Kirin 820 promises to offer 27% more performance.

Kirin 830:

Unlike its former counterparts, the Kirin 830 may remain secret for various reasons. We may only see it in the smartphone information software. Also, the Huawei Nova 12 series could be the first smartphone series to feature Kirin 830 onboard later this year.
