Huawei has not stopped research on flagship smartphones amid U.S. restrictions

Huawei is preparing to add a new member in the P-series, Huawei P50. Ahead of the launch, the hardware configurations, rumors, as well as renders of Huawei P50 lineups are leaked online, which creates excitement among the peoples, who are waiting to see the official revealing of this smartphone.

It was reported that the upcoming P50 and Mate 50 flagships will be equipped with Kirin 9000 processor that provides improved performance as well as a new user experience as compared to its predecessor.

Last October, Huawei released its high-end, Mate 40 series with the latest hardware and software technology including the 5nm Kirin 9000 and Kirin 9000E processors, pre-installed EMUI 11, fast wired and wireless charging, and more.

Recently, a Huawei insider from China discloses that Huawei already has reserved a huge amount of Kirin 9000 chipsets for upcoming flagships, P50 and Mate 50 series aside from Mate 40 series.

HiSilicon Kirin 9000 uses TSMC’s 5nm build process and has Octa-core architecture including 1 x Cortex [email protected] GHz, 3 x [email protected] GHz, 4 x [email protected] GHz.

However, the main difference between these two chipsets comes is only in GPU, the Kirin 9000 uses 24-core Mali-G78 while the Kirin 9000E features a 22-core Mali-G78 GPU.

Back in May 2019, the US government added Huawei to the entity-list and restricts the American companies to do business with Huawei. The US has applied this sanction to hurt the Chinese tech giant.

Following the sanction, some of the American companies applied for a license to supply Huawei. Among them, Intel got permission to sell its chipset. However, 5G network equipment products are still under restriction.

On January 18, 2021, the Trump administration informed US-based Huawei suppliers that it is revoking certain licenses to sell to the Chinese company and also rejects the number of applications, which are subject to permission to continue business with Huawei.

Amid these problems, it’s also reported that the company will keep researching the P and Mate-series flagships and maintaining to keep stretching the lifeline of its smartphone business until any breakthrough in smartphone technology.

According to the latest report, Huawei is planning to shift its focus on other smart products including smartphones to expand its business in the future. The company will mainly focus on five major industry in China, which is as follows:

  • PC and tablet industry,
  • Wearable and audio industry
  • HD industry
  • Smart selection IOT industry
  • Smartphone industry
