Last year, after a long-standing parent-child subsidiary mechanism, Honor separated from Huawei and established itself as an independent smartphone and smart device maker.

Following the breakup, Honor holds its first launch conference earlier this year and revealed its first smartphone, Honor V40 as a free smartphone maker. However, the journey of this new smartphone has just begun outside of Huawei’s partnership but people are still worried about their older Honor devices.

Since HarmonyOS is a hot topic at the moment, the questions of old Honor smartphone users are also concerning on this matter. They want to know whether they’ll be able to upgrade with HarmonyOS or not or they will be abandoned.

Regarding this matter, a tipster from Weibo has some interesting information and you may want to know it, as it may clear some of your doubts too. According to the information devices that were launched ahead of Honor V40, can upgrade with HarmonyOS AKA Hongmeng OS.

The tipster suggests that these devices include the Honor 30 series and V30 series. On the other hand, the Honor 20 and V20 series are still under evaluation to adopt this Huawei operating system. Furthermore, Honor phones powered by Kirin 810 and 820 chipset are also under testing to receive and run HarmonyOS software update.

Honor 9X:

Previously, Honor 9X, one of the most important Huawei smartphones caught up with HarmonyOS beta testing build as a report also suggests that all of the Honor phones with similar platforms and specs will upgrade with HarmonyOS OTA update.

HarmonyOS mobile beta testing status:

Following the initial testing in December 2020, Huawei is growing its efforts to bring the final HarmonyOS beta build and process it to the beta testing phase of the HarmonyOS developer activity.

Furthermore, Huawei has chosen to open more testing slots for old Huawei phone models later in May. Followed by a large adoration activity in June. However, an official announcement and the roadmap are still awaited from Huawei, which we may receive soon.

For now, most of the Huawei and Honor devices that have received EMUI 11 or Magic UI 4 are likely to stage to HarmonOS in the first or second rounds of upgrades, while others may have to wait for their turns gradually.
