First HarmonyOS 2.0 closed beta update rolling out for these 28 Huawei devices, brings new Operating System and features



Huawei announced HarmonyOS 2.0 for smartphones on June 2. Following the announcements, the eligible Huawei device users started enrolling for the first batch of HarmonyOS closed beta testing through the My Huawei app.

Post recruitment, Huawei has now begun rolling out the first HarmonyOS 2.0 closed beta test software build for 23 Huawei devices that included models from previous-gen flagships such as Mate 20 series to budget smartphones and tablets.

To be mention, HarmonyOS 2.0 beta testing campaign is currently opened for Chinese models. However, the global user no need to worry because Huawei is definitely planning something for them, and soon release the upgrade plan.

The HarmonyOS 2.0 is a brand new operating system and brings a new home screen, control panel, service center, HarmonyOS font, smoother sharing, smart home connection, better security, and more to provide a new user experience.

Swiping up on the app icon generates a service widget, which can be resized dragged to a new location, or added to your custom home screen.

Control Panel:

Swiping down from the upper-right edge of the screen takes you to Control Panel. Device Control access has been added to the shortcut switches panel so that you can control all of your devices with the same ease as navigating on your phone.

Service Center:


If you swipe up from the lower left or lower right corner on the screen, the system will lead to the Service Center. This is the place, where all of your collected service widgets are stored and ready to offer access to your desired services.

Smart Folder:

HarmonyOS adds support for app categorization and management. By pressing down on a standard folder displays a large folder, which offers direct access to desired apps.

HarmoynOS Fonts:


HarmonyOS brings support for step-free font Weight adjustments and adjusts the size of the font itself.

Smart Office:

Under this label, HarmonyOS brings you the capability to transfer files on cross-device platforms without requiring a data cable with the power of Huawei Share, which increases the file transfer speed and provides faster and secure file sharing between Huawei smartphones, computers, and tablets.

Seamless Performance:


All operations, including touches and swipes, are smoother and more natural, with images and videos loading more quickly as well.

Task manager:

Support task status saving in frequently-used apps, meaning that even after you’ve switched to another app, you can pick up a previous task right from where you had left off.


App Guard:


The App Guard mode is enabled by default, to ensure that all apps subject deep scans for malicious behavior, security vulnerabilities, privacy risks, and other related behaviors while being installed.

This prevents risky apps from being installed while helping safeguard the secure running environment of the entire system.


The TEE OS security kernel has obtained the CC EAL5+ certification, indicating the highest security level for a global commercial operating system kernel. The HarmonyOS operating system has obtained CC EAL4+ security certification, China’s highest security certification.


These two mention features only supported by smartphones from Huawei Mate 20, Nova 8. Nova 7, Nova 6 series, and Mate Xs.

Smart Home:

Offers nimble, intelligent operations on household appliances, such as quickly accessing the phone’s network from the devices, controlling screenless devices, installation-free apps, and direct service access, which can be accessed by tapping your phone against the selected household appliance, or bringing your phone into the proximity to the appliance.

Collaborative Security:


Add a mobile – Computer collaborative authentication feature and allows you to unlock your phone by entering the phone’s screen unlock password on your Huawei computer when your phone and computer are connected via multi-screen collaboration.

Huawei Mate X2 gets HarmonyOS update with June 2022 security patch

Huawei Mate X2 is one of the unique foldable gadgets in the smartphone market to date. Earlier this month, Huawei rolled out the May 2022 security patch for the corresponding device users, and now Mate X2 is all set to grab June 2022 update.

The new HarmonyOS update brings the latest June 2022 security patch for Huawei Mate X2 smartphone users. Thus, the respective smartphone users will experience a more enhanced and stable system after installing the new update.

Talking about the updated security patch, it offers fixes to a bunch of exploits and privacy threats in the system. Moreover, it mends 15 high and 4 medium levels of vulnerabilities of the internal framework. Hence, users must download the update as soon as it arrives on the phone.

However, before you upgrade, you must note the following points for a successful installation:

  • The device must have a better battery backup to install this update which is a minimum of 50%.
  • It’s compulsory to check your storage availability to download the latest update as per the size required.
  • A strong WiFi/mobile data connection is required for a buffer-free download of the package.

HarmonyOS 3.0 shuffles status bar icons, check comparison with HarmonyOS 2.0

Huawei is conducting HarmonyOS 3.0 developer beta run on smartphones and the company has made some shuffling in the status bar icons of the software. Although, the exchange was minor but it says a lot about Huawei’s intention of making the OS perfect as it now looking into deeper roots and removing all of the weak angles.

Coming to the status bar shuffle, Huawei has changed the position of some icons from left to right in the HarmonyOS 3.0. For instance, the WiFi icons are now moved toward the right, while the clock has been shifted to the left along with the notification icon. There are also some icons that have been removed from the status bar, which are no longer required to show.

Comparing these changes to HarmonyOS 2.0.

HarmonyOS 2.0 has WiFi and notification icons on the left while keeping the rest of the icons on the right. As you can see, the clock has had been on the right side of the status bar.

The changes in position might be related to the feedback from consumers. However, it’s not a final image of the software. As it will continuously be improved on the road to begin public beta testing for more Huawei smartphone users.

Thereafter, feedback will further shape HarmonyOS 3.0 for the final release.

A week ago, Huawei began registration of HarmonyOS 3.0 developer beta for the public Huawei smartphone users. This enables the phone owners to jump into the beta program stage and download the latest HarmonyOS 3.0 developer beta firmware.

According to the information, Huawei is still registering smartphone owners in China for HarmonyOS 3.0 developer beta testing until July 15. Hereafter, the company will continue to evaluate and send beta builds for the registered Huawei devices under the beta testing phase.


Currently, the Huawei HarmonyOS 3.0 developer beta is began testing on the following models: P50, P50 Pro, P50 Pocket, Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro 4G, Mate 40 Pro+, Mate 40 RS Porsche Design. Huawei tablet: MatePad Pro 12.6-inch 2021 model.
