Nvidia has recently submitted the Form 10-K annual report file to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) where it named Huawei as one of the primary competitor in several major areas including the AI chip production.

The American chip maker has always seen Huawei as its toughest rival when it comes to AI chips. Many times, the company has verbally stated these words. But in the latest edition, the chip producer has mentioned it in the written format to SEC filing.

As per the details, Nvidia has recognized Huawei as the top competitor in AI chip manufacturing. The chipmaker has also named Huawei as a challenger in other major areas like cloud services, supplier of ARM-based CPUs, SoCs for automobiles, and networking solutions in the official SEC filing.

After the U.S. sanctions on Chinese firms and new trading rules, Nvidia had to reinvent a few products that can comply with the latest U.S. regulations. This action has made the China-focused chips less efficient, compared to the Huawei Ascend 910B.

Huawei vs Nvidia: China

Meanwhile, Chinese companies see Huawei processors as more capable, powerful, and better than foreign low-end chips. At the same time, the Kirin developer has shifted its focus to AI segments to remain at the top position in artificial intelligence.

Eventually, Nvidia believes that Huawei Ascend processors are its main rivals in the Chinese market. It is worth mentioning that China’s AI chip sector is worth around $7 billion. Thus, Nvidia doesn’t want to lag in this chipset race.

On the other hand, several Chinese firms now consider Huawei as a better chipset supplier than foreign chip producers. A good example is Baidu, which placed a big chip order with Huawei last year instead of taking aid from Nvidia.

Apart from Huawei, Nvidia has marked Intel, Qualcomm, Broadcom, Amazon, and Microsoft as its competitors. Yet, Huawei is the foremost rival that appears tough to Nvidia, especially in the AI chip segment.
