Huawei operates two research centers in Russia and according to a new report, the company has decided to expand its Research and Development (R&D) staff in the country within the next six years.

Huawei plans $1.4 billion R&D center in Shanghai to boost self-made technologies

Huawei’s Moscow and Sait Petersburg research centers have 500 peoples but this number is expected to add 500 new researchers by the end of 2019 and 1000 more by 2025, reported Sputniknews.

It’s expected that these new recruitments will help the company to grab support from Russian scientific communities and universities and research centers.

The latest move is an addition to Huawei’s efforts to gain more competitiveness in the global market and to develop self-relied technologies rather than keep waiting for technology from the US.

During the announcement of H1 Business result of this year, Huawei announced a total investment of 120 billion yuan ($17.4 billion) in R&D in 2019, the investment to be used for Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, 5G, and chips.

Last year, more than 80,000 employees about 45 percent of the total workforce involved in R&D with 101.5 billion yuan of total investment, accounting for 14.1% of the company’s total investment last year.
