Huawei has officially confirmed that it’s presenting its next flagship mobile processor at IFA 2019 on September 6 and ahead of the official announcement, there is some new information that we want to show you on this upcoming chip.
On August 23, at the launch event of Huawei Ascend 910 AI Processor, Eric Xu, Huawei’s Rotating Chairman confirmed the launching of Kirin 990 at IFA 2019 by himself.
On the same day, a Weibo user posted an image of Huawei conference presentation showing its self-developed 5G solution but the points to be noted is it mentions “Kirin 985” side by side of Balong 5000 (5G modem chip). By the time of this presentation, the Kirin processor is not officially released by the company.
Back in May, it was a reported, the Kirin 985 series SoCs support Huawei’s high-end 4G smartphones, and can also come with add-on Balong 5G modem chips to support the vendor’s 5G smartphones dubbed as Mate 30 series.
The report further says that Huawei’s chipmaking division HiSilicon is planning to develop its 5G mobile SoC with integrated modem after the release of Kirin 985 series processor in the second half of this year.
Although it’s unfair to draw any conclusion so early but at the moment, Eric Xu is the man to believe on this matter and Kirin 990 is the processor that we’ll see at IFA.
Also, we cannot deny the possibility for another processor. After all, we’ve predicted two chips including one with the 4G modem and another with 5G modem.
Meanwhile, it’s worth waiting to find out whether Huawei will launch Kirin 985 or Kirin 990 or both of them.
Thanks to the tipster.
