The rollout of monthly and quarterly security patches continues. Meanwhile, Huawei is also describing the issues and fixed them last month and published them with August 2021 EMUI security patch details.

For your information, these monthly and quarterly EMUI patch update programs also include patches released for the Android OS and patches released by Huawei for smartphones and tablets devices.

According to the company this time, it has fixed a number of important issues found in the phone’s system but only mentioned some of the most severe CVE details, unlike the month of July.

To be mentioned, the announced solution to these patch vulnerabilities, as well as system improvements and some added features, may rollout soon to the eligible devices via OTA software update.

August 2021 EMUI details

Issues fixed with the August 2021 EMUI patch:

1. Remote DoS vulnerability in some Huawei phones, which could successfully exploit to cause the app to exit unexpectedly. This CVE affects EMUI version 11 and Magic UI 4.

2. Unstandaridzed field names in some Huawei phones that could affect the service confidentiality. The CVE-2021-37034 affected versions are EMUI 11.0.0, EMUI 10.1.1, EMUI 10.1.0, EMUI 10.0.0, EMUI 9.1.1, EMUI 9.1.0, Magic UI 4.0.0, Magic UI 3.1.1, Magic UI 3.1.0, Magic UI 3.0.0, Magic UI 2.1.1

3. Injection attack vulnerability with the MeeTime app that could also affect the service availability. Affected versions of CVE-2021-37033 are EMUI 11 and Magic UI 4.

4. Bypass vulnerability due to the invalid Digital Balance settings in maintenance mode in some Huawei devices that result in Digital Balance failing to work. This issue with CVE-2021-37032 is causing problem in EMUI 11.0.0, EMUI 10.1.1, EMUI 10.1.0, EMUI 10.0.0, EMUI 9.1.1, EMUI 9.1.0, Magic UI 4.0.0, Magic UI 3.1.1, Magic UI 3.1.0, Magic UI 3.0.0, Magic UI 2.1.1

5. Improper permission vulnerability in some smart charging devices. This issue has medium severity and CVE-2021-37030 affected the same EMUI and Magic UI version mentioned above.

6. Identity verification issue in some Huawei devices, which cause the feature to be not working on supported Huawei phones. The vulnerability has CVE-2021-37029 and affects EMUI 11.0.0 and Magic UI 4.0.
