HarmonyOS 3 is under preparations for a stable release and a beta build has already released plenty about this upcoming software. However, this is not just an incremental update, as HarmonyOS 3 does come with amazing functionality that makes it the god of app management.

How? Let’s find out.

HarmonyOS comes with a feature called Large Folders, this feature allows users to enlarge a traditional app folder with interactive functionalities.

So, what are these new functionalities, and how it really works?

Let’s dig into this.

Traditional app folders allow you to store app icons into a group but you need to open the folder first in order to access or tap a specific app icon. On the other hand, you cannot change the size of that folder.

Meanwhile, HarmonyOS allows you to enlarge the entire view of the folder, to see the app icons. On the other hand, you can access these apps with just a tap, without even opening the folder first. Furthermore, you can drag and reposition these folders anywhere on the home screen.

The entire functionality brings the app management system of HarmonyOS 3 is way better than any user interface brought in by Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, and other Chinese brands.

What’s new in HarmonyOS 3?

HarmonyOS 3 has further improved the large folder features by bringing more sizes. The initial feature only supported the 3×3 (row x column) layout option to store apps. However, the large folders 2.0 in HarmonyOS 3 come with more layout options.

These layouts are:

  • 3×1
  • 1×3
  • 3×6
  • 3×3 (HarmonyOS 2)

The most interesting fact is that the feature allows you to transform the layout with the layout points around the folder. You just need to tap, hold and drag the folder points to resize into any of the above-mentioned layouts.

This makes the entire workflow easy and accessible, which cannot be found in any other software.
