Huawei Mobile Services 4.0 update starts to rollout for global users, brings HMS Core support

Huawei has recently started to rollout the latest version of Huawei Mobile Services to its smartphone users globally, which was limited to the beta testers in China.

The latest Huawei Mobile Services 4.0 brings Huawei Mobile Services Core (HMS Core), providing basic services, such as Map, Location, and Security features for apps on your device.

Under this new version, Huawei has changed some policies and features for Ad-ID statistics and personalised ads.

However, we didn’t see any HMS core apps or additional HMS core app package on the AppGallery compared to the Chinese version. Also, no HMS option appeared in the settings menu, which Huawei begin testing last December in China.

The focus of this update seems to deliver the libraries for developers for Security, User ID management, Health and more to help them build apps on the latest version of HMS.

Currently, we can only assume that Huawei is laying the foundation for HMS Core and will install HMS Core apps soon after the HMS 4.0 update expansion.

How to check for update:

Open AppGallery > tap ‘Manager’ tab > tap on ‘UPDATE’ button on the side of ‘Huawei Mobile Services’
