Orange Pi will launch open-source HarmonyOS for PCs

Orange Pi, an open-source product brand in China has announced that the Orange Pi OS (OH), customized and developed based on open-source HarmonyOS, will launch soon for PCs.

The new Orange Pi OS (OH) has completed HDMI adaption of LCD display, touch features, customized system apps, startup animation, themes, wallpapers, customizable settings, file manager, and more.

The software has adapted features such as multitasking, taskbar manager, control center, settings, file manager, keyboard selection, browser, media player, app store, and more. It also has basic features such as running office applications as well as entertainment content.

Hardware Adaptation:

According to the plan, Orange Pi OS (OH) will first be used in three devices using ARM architecture. These are equipped with development board Orange Pi 3B equipped with RK3566, development board Orange Pi 5 equipped with RK3588S, and development board Orange Pi 5 Plus with RK3588.

To be mentioned, Orange Pi OS (OH) is currently only used in PCs that support ARM architecture, and the official next step is to adapt to X86 architecture PCs.

Orange Pi OS (Droid) is an Android-based operating system with an integrated desktop experience, offering users multi-window, taskbar, and more. Orange Pi OS (Droid) offers a home screen experience similar to that of Windows or MacOS and can run a large number of Android applications.

For now, Orange Pi has not revealed a launch date for this open-source HarmonyOS operating system for PCs but it could happen soon.
