Huawei enters top five global IaaS cloud vendors, chasing Amazon, Microsoft, Alibaba, and Google: Report

Gartner recently published a report, shows that Huawei, for the first time, entered the list of top five vendors of the IaaS public cloud. However, the U.S. e-commerce giant, Amazon is still dominating the cloud market.

According to the report, the global IaaS could market (infrastructure-as-a-service ) accounted for 64.3 billion US Dollars for 2020. It recorded an increase of 40.7% in comparison with the last year’s revenue of US$45.7 billion.

Amazon tops the rank list followed by Microsoft on second, Alibaba third, Google fourth, and Huawei on the fifth position. These firms acquire 80% of the total global market share for 2020.

Sid Nag, research vice president at Gartner pointed out that the top vendors are expanding their business, providing the service to both local and private customers. The solutions also adopting cutting-edge technologies to satisfy user demand.

“Hyperscale providers are continuing to build distributed cloud and edge solutions that extend the public cloud’s reach into private and on-premise locations, addressing the needs of organizations relating to data sovereignty, workload portability, and network latency,” said Sid.

Adding to this, the global pandemic increases the demand for cloud service with a rational increase of work from home and online educational systems. It won’t take long when we see the market reaching a double-digit growth rate.

Top Five Public Cloud Vendors:

Amazon:

Talking about the individuals, Amazon’s registered a 26.2 billion USD estimated revenue for 2020 obtaining 41% of the total market shares with the AWS server. The company shows a 28.7% of increase rate, which is mildly inferior to the average market rate.

Microsoft:

Microsoft Azure is the second position holder in the 2020 IaaS public cloud top five market vendor list. The company accounted for 12.7 billion USD revenue, a 60% growth rate, and about 20% of the total market share. Undoubtedly, during the global epidemic, the cloud market shows a significant growth rate.

Alibaba:

Coming to the top Chinese cloud service provider Alibaba, it holds about 10% of the total market share with an annual return of more than 6 billion USD in 2020 and an increase of 52.8%. The work from home and learning platforms are the main reason for the soaring growth of Alibaba Cloud.

Google:

Moving on to the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) IaaS market revenue, it accounted a 4 billion USD with a 66% of increase rate in 2020. The GCP is majorly used in the retail, government, and medical industry, which is the reason behind its increasing growth rate.

Huawei:

After the second consecutive year of over 200% growth in the IaaS market, Huawei broke into the top five IaaS vendors for the first time in 2020, with $2.7 billion in revenue.

Over 90% of this revenue comes from Greater China, a region that continues to see rapid cloud market growth.

“After 2019, Huawei made a hard pivot away from selling equipment to investing heavily in their cloud services business which is starting to yield results,” said Nag.
