Huawei and GAC working on the first medium and large scale electric SUVs

The AH8 model project- jointly developing by Huawei and GAC Aian has received the approval of the board of directors at the 67th meeting. The announcement is officially made by the Guangzhou Automobile Group.

Both firms are working to develop, the fully electric SUV founded on the GEP 3.0 framework and computing & communication architecture (CCA) of GAC and Huawei respectively. This next-level smart car will adopt the full-stack smart car technology of Huawei and provide an advanced car for future generations.

Furthermore, this is the first medium and large-scale electric SUV project with a huge investment of 800 million Yuan. Meanwhile, the expected mass production is scheduled for the end of 2023.

Besides, GAC also published the production and sales bulletin for the last month, which reveals that the company’s automobile production was 163,583 vehicles with a year-on-year decrease of 17.34% for June 2021. To date, the total production from January to June has been reached 1,001,446 with a YOY increase of 25.61%.

Talking about the sales volume, the company has sold about 1026505 units in the previous month, while the aggregate sales volume until June was 1026505 with YOY progress of 24.49%.

Previous Report:

As per the previous reports, Huawei and GAC are jointly developing the Level 4 autonomous smart vehicle technology with Didi technology. It’s expected that this new method will reduce the need for manual operation in autopiloting vehicles or even it can be successfully operated without human touch.

At the 2021 World New Energy Vehicle Conference, Huawei Smart Car Solution BG Chief- Wang Jun gave a keynote speech. He addresses the company’s current position in the automotive industry and future strategy. It’s the time when existing technologies are reaching peaks, we could see new trends in the near future.

With the experience of 30 years, Huawei reserves handy ICT technology to integrate into an intelligent vehicle. However, the company doesn’t have any direct plan to enter the car market. Besides, Wan Jun further describes that the Chinese tech firms’ smart car product mainly depends on two factors.

The first is the Huawei inside mode, which is referred to as the corporation with smart car OEMs. At present, Changan, BAIC, and GAC have been cooperating with the company for establishing their subsidiaries.

Huawei Plan’s to invest 1 billion USD:

Making further moves in the smart car industry, Huawei has invested over US$1 billion (approx. 6.4 billion yuan) in the smart car field. The company continually researching innovative technologies and developing new auto parts for carmakers.

Moving ahead, it has registers about 5,000 people in the research and development in its 10 R&D centers. China, Japan, and Europe are the three main bases of the company, where it has established its research centers.

Furthermore, the company launched over 30 smart car components that are well recognized in the market. Adding to this, it consistently increasing its business relations, signing new agreements to provides its employees more opportunities for exploring new technologies.

For instance, Huawei’s AI-supported 800v fast charging technology is a bit popular in the market. It fills the battery with a 30% faster speed and only takes 15 minutes to charge 80% of the car battery. However, it is just the start of a new journey, there is more surprise are waiting ahead, we just have to give some time to the company for polishing its technology.

Huawei authorities often emphasize the no-car-making policy of the company. Although their smart car solutions are recognized by the domestic smart car OEMs, it doesn’t want to directly want to enter the automotive industry.

At the 2021 World New Energy Vehicle Conference, Huawei Smart Car Solution BU President Wang Jun again affirmed, “Huawei doesn’t build cars, instead helps the automakers to build good cars”. Furthermore, he also highlighted the points on which the company is confident most.

He said, two main advantages helping the company in making good cars are- Huawei insides model and part supply chain. The company has good business relations with car OMEs including BAIC, Changan, and GAC Group. The launched products have received a good response and the company has further plans for the near future.

Aside from its system technologies, the company also provides smart car parts such as LiDAR and camera systems. Adding to this, it also has in-vehicle Kirin chips that are well synchronized with the smart car cockpit software- HarmonyOS.

President Jun further informed, since the establishment of the Huawei Smart Car Business Unit the company has been continually investing to enhance, its technology and resources. To date, it has invested about 1 billion USD in the research and development of auto parts.

Moving ahead, it holds 5,000 over R&D teams and has 30 existing products in the market. Alternatively, the company is increasing its limitations and establishing more partnerships with others. The company want to integrate platform and ecology to create a vehicle operating system that mainly concerns

Besides, Huawei’s optical light technologies that are mainly integrated into AR-HUD, seatback display, smart car lights, and so on are some of the leading technologies that will not jump out from the way electricity to light in the future.  Additionally, the company wants to advance the technology that’ll work the same as the human eye or maybe more than it.

In last he said, Huawei will soon open its Suzhou innovation center by the end of this year. It aims to provide 50 million equipment support per year. Moreover, it has 300 plus industry experts that’ll jointly carry out new solutions.

Huawei Smart Car Solution equipped BYD Song PLUS EV will come with a lower capacity motor

BYD Song Plus EV with Huawei Technology

Today, BYD Songs’ upgraded version that is equipped with Huawei Smart Car Solution- BYD Song Plus EV has appeared on the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s declaration list. In addition, new capabilities, images, and other parameters are also revealed in the list.

This Huawei ADS version of the BYD Song Plus EV has the same structure as the previous one with 4705 x 1890 x 1680 mm dimensions. Meanwhile, its wheelbase is 2765mm without additional modules comparing with the earlier version.

Furthermore, BYD has installed a new motor provided by Huawei in accordance with system requirements. The TZ196XYAP1 can realize a maximum power of up to 123kW, which is slightly lower than the previous models. Besides, there is no info has been revealed about the other parameters of the new Song Plus EV.

To be methods, the BYD models come with a 135kW power motor at present. It’ll make this new version a lower one in terms of applying torque. There must be a valid reason behind installing a lower-capacity motor. However, the company said no words about it yet.

A recent report from Yole Developpement informs that Huawei acquired three percent of the lidar global market. The company is standing in the fifth position with Hesai and Velodyne even being a non-Lidar maker firm.

Lidars are remote object sensing modules widely used in autonomous vehicles. Valeo is a global leader in the automotive industry in terms of supply. Furthermore, Huawei has shown its potential for the lidar industry in the previous HBT model.
