Amid doubts on EMUI 11 eligibility, Huawei P40 Lite users grabs a new security patch

Since September 2020, Huawei is testing its device for EMUI 11, the latest OS skin on home ground as well as globally. Following the EMUI 11 testing, Huawei has released the EMUI 11 stable version for the P40, Mate 30, Nova 7, Nova 6 series, and other devices users in China.

Moreover, EMUI 11 beta testing for the Huawei P40 series is underway for global users. Some regions including Russia, Central Asia, and Asia Pacific P40 series users have received the stable EMUI 11 version via OTA updates.

Now, Huawei has begun releasing a new software update for Huawei P40 Lite users. This software update mainly brings the November 2020 security patch that fixes different levels of exploits and issues to enhance system security and overall device performance.

Meanwhile, Huawei P40 Lite and P40 Lite 5G smartphones are compatible to get EMUI 11, but it is not confirmed by the company yet, whether these devices will receive EMUI 11 or not. Currently, this device is running on EMUI 10.1.

What’s new in this update:

Version: Huawei P40 Lite smartphone users getting EMUI 10.1 version 10.1.0.261 with an update size of 728MB.

Security: Integrates Android security patches released in November 2020 for improved system security that fixes 3 critical and 15 high levels of CVEs.

  • The update is rolling out in batches so it may take some time/days to reach your device.
  • The update will not erase any data.

HOW TO UPDATE P40 Lite:

To download this update manually, go to Settings then System & updates, then open Software update, from here select Check for updates. If an update is available it’ll pop-up on your phone and an option of Download and install will appear. Press the option and start to download.

Alternatively, you can also request software updates through the Support app. To do this, open the Support app, go to the Service tab on the bottom bar, tap on the update, then select Check for updates and then download and install.

EMUI 12 RoadMap Europe: Devices and Rollout Dates

EMUI 12 roadmap Europe

Huawei is rolling out EMUI 12 major software updates for eligible devices in the global market. Initially, Huawei has organized the EMUI 12 beta activity to verify the new features as well as find and fix the bugs.

As of now, the top models of Huawei including Huawei Mate 40 Pro, Mate 30 Pro, Mate Xs, P40 series, and more have grabbed the stable EMUI 12 in West and North-East Europe. However, this EMUI 12 update rollout is continuously expanding and reaching more devices ASAP.

Recently, Huawei has officially published an official EMUI 12 rollout roadmap for its devices launched in Europe. This updated plan shows the list of eligible devices along with their current status and rollout start date.

EMUI needs power key feature similar to One UI and Android

Turning off your smartphone could be helpful for various reasons. However, with the evolving smartphone ecosystem, phone makers need also to evolve and Android device manufacturers continue to stand up to expectations by installing useful features and bringing them to the consumers.

Such interesting feature includes the virtual power key that is now has been adopted by different phone makers including Google and Samsung for Android and One UI software. The feature allows you to access the power menu directly from your quick settings panel. This is quite an amazing feature that Android phone makers should include in their phone ecosystem.

But Huawei EMUI still doesn’t have a virtual power key, which is a bummer for the consumers. As we expected, Huawei should have rolled out, Virtual power key with EMUI 12 software update, as it’s already used by other phone makers.

Below you can check an example of what the virtual key would look like in a Samsung device running One UI software.

If installed, the virtual power key could become one of the most favored feature addition on EMUI devices.

The use cases of this feature are very simple, and Huawei could add a virtual power icon right into the control panel. The feature will ease the access and remove some hassle from the physical power key as it will be able to survive longer with the device hardware.

Currently, this feature has not been part of EMUI software but we surely waiting to see what Huawei thinks of its integration.
