Since 2019, Huawei has been serving US sanctions on various technologies and its founder said that that such restrictions are pressurizing but also motivating for the Chinese firm.

During a recent academic event in China, Huawei Founder and CEO, Ren Zhengfei received a question about US sanctions. Asking that Huawei has encountered a lot of difficulties in recent years. I want to know how Huawei has responded. Is Huawei ready to develop sustainably in the international market? And should we restore relations with the United States, or can we continue to develop without restoring relations with the United States?

Ren replied that US sanctions are indeed a massive pressure but at the same time, the pressure is also motivating for Huawei. Before US sanctions, Huawei solely relied on platforms developed by the US. However, after US sanctions, Huawei spent time developing its own platforms, breaking the reliance on foreign technologies including the ones from the US.

He gave credit to the Huawei employees.

“After these four years of hard work and the hard work of 200,000 employees, we have basically established our own platform,” said Ren.

He concluded the statement by saying that Huawei may not achieve the same level of technology as the US but the company aims to reach at the nearest level possible.

Restrictions:

In 2019, the US banned the company from purchasing US-made technologies including chipsets and other important goods. These are important to make new devices. However, the absence of such tech affected the production. Eventually, Huawei had to quit making new flagship chipsets for smartphones. Its carrier business also witnessed severe difficulties.

However, the company boasted its research and development staff to keep on researching new technologies and establish new supply chain sources.
