The US president, Donald Trump, slams Huawei for hiring a former Obama administration cyber security official, Samir Jain, as a lobbyist, over fears the company is trying to spy on the US.

Jain was the former senior director for cybersecurity policy at the White House National Security Council during the Obama administration, but he has now registered as a lobbyist for Huawei.

Trump believes the hiring of Jain to lobby for Huawei is part of a major propaganda and influence campaign by the Chinese government.

At the White House, Jain led a team responsible for cyber incident response and was chairman of a group that reviewed proposed cyber operations by the U.S.

Jain is now with the lobbying firm Jones Day on behalf of the Chinese firm.
