Related to this, Sony is losing a big number of orders from Huawei for image sensors and facing major losses in the semiconductor business.

To overcome this, Sony Group is now reconstructing its semiconductor business strategy. According to the information, Sony is expanding its component supplies to other Chinese companies as well as making efforts to develop high-resolution sensors to improve profitability.

Additionally, Sony is planning and trying to jump into the automobile sensor business to overcome the losses and avoid the impact of the sharp drop of Huawei image sensor orders.

US sanctions on Huawei:

In May 2019, the US government added Huawei to the blacklist and banned Sony and other companies to supply components. Before this, Sony has been supplying image sensors for Huawei devices.

Moving on, Sony and dozens of other component manufacturers applied for a license to continue business with Huawei. But the demand for Sony’s image sensors is undoubtedly far from ever before.
