Second phase HarmonyOS 2 public beta recruitment begins for these 6 Nova devices [List]

June 2 was a remarkable day in the history of Huawei product launch conference. On that day, the company stepped foot into the new era of a brand new software ecosystem and unveiled HarmonyOS 2 for smartphones as well as other smart devices.

Right after the launch, Huawei also started rolling for the first HarmonyOS 2.0 public beta version for the 18 eligible devices including Mate 40, P40, Mate 30, and MatePad Pro 5G series.

The HarmonyOS 2 is designed to completely replace the existing EMUI Android-based operating system. It brings a new home screen, control panel, service center, HarmonyOS font, better security, and others to provide a brand new user experience.

Now, according to the latest information, Huawei has sped up the HarmonyOS testing program and opened the second phase of HarmonyOS 2.0 public beta for 6 devices including:

To join the HarmonyOS 2.0 public beta, follow below steps:

  • Go to Home

For your information, these devices were a part of the initial closed beta testing, which was started on June 2 inside the Chinese market. Moreover, the eligible Nova models also started receiving the HarmonyOS 2.0 closed beta builds via OTA upgrades.

It seemed that Huawei has started the early adaptation for eligible devices as scheduled. The company is doing so to achieve the new aim to install HarmonyOS 2.0 in 360 million devices this year.

Still, HarmonyOS’s rollout is limited to the Chinese models and may soon be opened for global consumers.

Oniro Operating System launched, based on Huawei HarmonyOS

HarmonyOS is designed and developed by Huawei and later contributed to OpenAtom Foundation, an open-source code management organization. Last month, OpenAtom and Eclipse Foundation has announced a new partnership and on October 26, both of these partners launched Oniro operating system.

OpenHarmony is a multi-kernel OS that was developed by Huawei and contributed to the OpenAtom Foundation last year. Oniro operating system is designed on the basis of open-source along with a motive of transparent, vendor-neutral, and independent software for the era of IoT. Eclipse Foundation promises that Oniro will also deliver additional specifications to help drive the global adoption of the HarmonyOS.

Oniro has made its debut as a global version of OpenHarmony and it’ll be available for various platforms including:

  • Mobile
  • IoT
  • Machine economy
  • Edge
  • Others

A benchmark for OpenHarmony – HarmonyOS:

This new operating system will enable and strengthen the use of HarmonyOS in the global market. The developer community will deliver an independent, but compatible implementation of the OpenHarmony specifications, tailored for the global market.

That’s not it, Oniro will also open support for apps that will run smoothly on the OpenHarmony operating system, which means, all of the HarmonyOS adaptions will be able to run Oniro applications.

“This interoperability will allow the Oniro community to create a global ecosystem and marketplace for applications and services that can be used across both operating systems, anywhere in the world,” said Eclipse.

Oniro is a new start for HarmonyOS and it is supported by various tech giants from the industry including telecom giant, Huawei, Arm software experts Linaro, and industrial IoT specialists Seco. This number of partners is likely to expand further in the future.

  3. Select a device to transfer a specific task from your phone.

Enable Bluetooth on your phone and connect to your preferred audio device in one of the following ways (depending on the device type):

  2. Smart speaker and Vision – Enable Bluetooth on your smart speaker or Vision, connect it to the same WLAN network, and log in to the same Huawei ID as that on your phone.

  • Swipe up diagonally (or along the edge) from the bottom left or right corner on your phone to access the My services tab in Service Center.
  • On the My Services tab, touch a service widget to directly access the corresponding service.
  • On the Discover tab, touch and hold down on a service widget, and touch Open to access the service. You can also touch the service widget and follow the onscreen instructions to manage the widget.

App snippets allow you to preview and access common app services and features, without having to open the apps themselves. For example, the Weather snippet takes you straight to the weather forecast, and the Music snippet allows you to control music playback.

Expand/Collapse an app snippet: Swipe up on an app icon to expand a snippet, and touch any area outside of the snippet to collapse it.

Pin/Remove an app snippet: Touch pin icon to pin an app snippet to the home screen, and touch and hold the snippet to move or remove it.

A few things to know:

Apps supporting snippets have a short bar at the bottom, which can be removed in the home screen settings. In drawer mode, you can expand a snippet by touching and holding down on an app icon. More apps will support snippets shortly.
