New app bar, support for Windows, and display optimizations rolling out with HarmonyOS 2 developer beta 3
HarmonyOS‘ smartphone journey originally began in December last year. During its initial recruitment, Huawei selected Huawei P40, Mate 30, and MatePad Pro series devices to take part in the Developer Beta activity.
After months of testing, Huawei finally opened developer beta testing for more developers and public users, which led us to the June 2nd launch of HarmonyOS 2 for general consumers.
Yet, the developer beta testing will continue and Huawei will keep rolling out improvements in the background so that development and new features could be checked and rollout for the consumer devices.
Related to this, Huawei has now rolled a new software update in the series of HarmonyOS 2.0 developer beta 3, which brings a bunch of new features and system improvements.
According to the changelog, this latest developer beta software installs a very useful feature, which allows users to store both permanent and recently opened applications. The update adds support for the global handwriting features for stylus devices to identify the writing.
Furthermore, the update also consists of support for multi-screen collaboration features on HarmonyOS to windows OS. As well as optimizations for display and sound effects, while fixing bugs in WiFi.
The changelog shows that the update has HarmonyOS 2.0 developer beta 3 versions 2.0.0.128 and a software package size of 5.44GB, which is a big package.
Still, the company will continue to push major changes and improvements as well as the latest features to the developers.

System:
Adds a new application dock at the bottom to store permanent and recently opened applications, which is clear at a glance and can be used at any time.
The stylus writing experience is more efficient and supports the global handwriting function. It can be converted into text with handwriting in the text input area, and text can be selected, deleted, and split quickly.
Multi-screen collaboration:
Added support for multi-screen collaboration between a tablet with HarmonyOS operating system and a PC with Windows operating system. The dual systems run independently, and pictures and files can be transferred easily through drag and drop, just as simple as between folders.
Display:
Optimizes touch screen experience in some game scenarios.
Sound Effects:
Optimizes sound experience in some game scenarios.
WLAN:
It Fixes the problem that the WLAN signal connection automatically closed in some scenarios.

Ahead of the HarmonyOS 4, this new upgrade will satisfy the consumer demand for a new change in the entire ecosystem.
HarmonyOS 3.1 Huawei
OpenAtom Foundation has recently announced the 2022 OpenHarmony Annual Operation Report. It reveals the that opens source HarmonyOS has achieved around 100 million lines of code.
According to the information, OpenHarmony has made new contracts with a total of 51 companies. While over 5100 co-builders submitted codes to be merged by Open Source HarmonyOS.
This marks a total of nearly 100 million lines of code built for the open-source HarmonyOS. Last year, 45 manufacturers launched 100+ open-source HarmonyOS products.
As of December 2022, the number of OpenHarmony project groups increased to 29. It includes over 50 top technical coders and 10+ university clubs.
Huawei:
Last month, Yu Chengdong, Executive Director and CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group said that he is expecting big progress in the OpenHarmony open-source software.
Yu then revealed that OpenHarmony has become the fastest-growing operating system. There are currently more than 110 commercial devices and more than 100 models running this software.
OpenHarmony is already applied in various fields such as education, finance, transportation, and mining, and has built an information infrastructure base for thousands of industries.
Following HarmonyOS operating system launch in 2019, Huawei announced to open-source its OS. At HDC 2020, Huawei launched open-source HarmonyOS as OpenHarmony and donated the entire code to OpenAtom Foundation.
OpenAtom Foundation is the first foundation for open-source software in China. It was established in June 2020 and initiated jointly by many of the big tech giants.
Yesterday, Huawei opened the gates of HarmonyOS 3 public beta for 9 Honor devices new devices, and today, the Chinese tech maker added 7 of the native smartphones and tablets on the same upgrade process.
Huawei has opened HarmonyOS 3 public beta for 7 prominent old and mid-range devices including Huawei Nova 8 SE, Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G, Enjoy 50, and MatePad 10.4. These along with other models are eligible to participate in the new HarmonyOS 3 beta phase.
According to the information, HarmonyOS 3 public beta will allow all of the users with the HarmonyOS 2 operating system to gain HarmonyOS 3 features ahead of a stable release. Interstingly, public beta allows unlimited slots, which makes it different from a closed testing environment.
Also, public beta indicates that the software testing has been completed and it’s in the final stage of the official software rollout.

All of these devices require you to download the base HarmonyOS version 2.0.0.205 to receive the HarmonyOS 3 public beta.
Last month, Huawei opened HarmonyOS 3 and closed beta recruitment for these models and within a month, Huawei progressed to the next phase.

Huawei has confirmed that eligible HarmonyOS 3 public beta device users can signup for the testing application starting March 22. However, the registration process could only complete via the My Huawei app.
