Nowadays, the foldable smartphone market has shown significant growth. The top manufacturers such as Huawei, Samsung, and more have started laughing at their folding products.

Recently, IDC has released 2021 China’s foldable market share ranking in which Huawei tops the board and accounted for 49.3%. The IDC report discloses that there were around 1.5 million foldable smartphone units in the Chinese market in 2021 but it remained a niche market with only 0.5% share.

According to IDC report data, Huawei devices covered 49.3% of the total market and followers by Samsung with 28.8%, Xiaomi with 13.2%, OPPO with 6.1%, and Lenovo Motorola’s share is 2.4%.

On the other, Huawei has recently debuted the first flip-style foldable smartphone – Huawei P50 Pocket with premium features, a stylish foldable design and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 4G.

Furthermore, the IDC mentioned some reasons behind the sudden boom in the foldable smartphone market that are listed below:

  • In recent years, brands from different countries have made efforts to explore the high-end value market, but the process is full of challenges. Therefore, from the point of view of product form, it is the domestic brand to continue to challenge the high-end market and establish a high-end brand image in the future.
  • Some leading manufacturers take the initiative to reduce the price of new folding screen products to 10,000 yuan, or even less than 8,000 yuan. Also, the relatively conservative supply strategy adopted for many new products has placed the market in a position of short supply, leading to a high level of attention from potential buyers.
  • The optimization and development of application software and related usage scenarios, and the increasingly mature and large-scale hardware industry chain, have rapidly improved the practicality and reliability of folding screen products. In addition to their unique social and decorative features, folding screen products, it has also been able to bring better experience and value to users in certain usage scenarios.
