A number of Huawei Executives has already been denying the existence of ‘Android alternative’, and a new statement from the company’s founder reveals that the company is fully relying on Android for its smartphones.

Google is still trying to supply Android services to Huawei

Huawei founder and CEO, Ren Zhengfei in an interview with YahooFinance said while Huawei has since shifted its supply chains to source from non-American chipmakers, it has no alternative operating system to turn to if the U.S. government denies access to Google’s Android.

He also said the company is prioritizing development of its Hongmeng operating system, which is designed specifically for use in the Internet of Things like smart TVs, artificial intelligence, and autonomous driving.

“We will only look into developing our own smartphone OS when Android is no longer an option, but as of now, we don’t plan on it,” Ren said.

Huawei Mate 20 X 5G is scheduled to be launched later this month in China, Mate 30 in Q4 and foldable phone Mate X in somewhere around Q3 of this year but Ren said any of these launches could be delayed if the devices are not supported by Android.

“We are discussing this kind of issue, but right now we have only Plan A, to prepare the launch of our new products with Android,” he said.

The US Commerce Department added Huawei into the trade blacklist in May, which bars the tech giant from doing business with the US firms, meanwhile, the commerce has provided 90 days reprieve to continue serving its existing users, as well as an allowance to use Android and its software updates.

Back in March, ahead of Huawei’s inclusion in the entity list, Consumer Business Group CEO, Yu Chengdong said the company has prepared its ‘Plan-B’ OS in case it’s abandoned from using Android or Windows.

The OS was trademarked as ‘Hongmeng’ and reports also hint that the company was surely building something for smartphones but we don’t know why it’s not been applied in actions, is it because of resumption of Android services or something else? let us know what do you think of this situation of Huawei.
