IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), It is such an academic institution that plays a major role in the industry and now involved in the battle between the US Department of Commerce and Huawei.

An IEEE’s internal mail shows that the IEEE requires member reviewers to ban Huawei’s colleagues as reviewers or editors. There already many copies of this mail appeared online.

Which, says “The US has put Huawei on its BIS list. Therefore, we cannot use colleagues from Huawei as reviewers or Editors for the peer-review process of our journals, if we continue to do so, this may have severe legal implications”

It seems that we can keep Huawei colleagues on our Editorial Boards, they just cannot handle any papers until the company is removed from the BIS list again.

The standards defined by IEEE in the industry have a great impact. This means that in the future, Huawei will be affected by the participation, review and standard setting of IEEE-related projects.

On May 16, The US Commerce Department added Huawei into the trade blacklist and imposed restrictions that’ll make it very difficult for the company to do business with American firms.

In order to fight these restrictions, Huawei has filed a new motion in the seeking to declare a US defense law unconstitutional in the fight against sanctions that the US government has put on the company.
