Huawei captures sixth spot in 2024 Global Top 100 R&D companies ranking

Huawei achieved the sixth rank in the 2024 Global Top 100 R&D Investment firms listing. Despite several foreign challenges, the company managed to make space among the top 10 global R&D investment OEMs like Google, Meta, and more.

R&D refers to Research and Development. It reflects the process of creating new products, services, and technologies. The sector also focuses on improving the existing techs. It’s a key part of a company and keeps it competitive in the tech race.

EU Commission recently published the 2024 Global Top 100 R&D Investment Companies scoreboard. It shows how the major tech vendors have performed in the innovative last year. The list includes familiar names like Meta, Samsung, and more.

One of these names is Huawei which has ranked sixth in the 2024 Global Top 100 R&D Investment Companies listing. The Chinese tech giant invested over 19 billion euros in the Research and Development sector in the last year.

The company eventually became the highest-ranked Chinese company in the latest ranking. It even outperformed competitors like Samsung, Intel, and Qualcomm.

The top 10 companies in the listing are (ranking-wise): Alphabet, Meta, Apple, Microsoft, Volkswagen, Huawei, Samsung, Intel, Roche, and Johnson & Johnson.

Google’s parent company Alphabet has achieved the top position with 39.8 billion euros (301.433 billion yuan) of R&D Investment in the fiscal year 2023.

Apart from the top rankers, the listing includes around 2000 companies with the largest R&D investment. Out of these, 322 are EU firms, 681 belong to the US, 579 companies are from China, and 185 industries are from Japan. Others are from the UK (63), South Korea (40), and Switzerland (39).

The overall investment has crossed 1.257 trillion euros and holds 85% of the global commercial Research and Development sector. Meanwhile, the top 50 companies account for 40% of the total global commercial R&D field.
