Future iPhones rumored to use Huawei-powered DeepSeek R1 AI

Apple is planning to introduce new iPhones with Huawei-powered DeepSeek R1 AI model. The American tech giant is making efforts to bring AI benefits to its Chinese customers. To do so, it may opt for a new China-made alternative solution.
FixedFocus noted that Apple may integrate the Huawei-powered DeepSeek R1 AI reasoning model into its future iPhones. These new handsets will be China-exclusive.
Apple Intelligence is Apple’s own AI generative model for iPhones, iPads, and Macs. It is already available in the US and other markets except the EU and China.
The iPhone maker was worried due to the absence of AI features in its Chinese devices. Apple iPhone 16 series debuted in China last year without AI blessing. The OEM didn’t introduce ‘Intelligence’ support due to Chinese regulations and standards.
Lack of AI and Huawei’s tri-fold invention gave a tough spot to Apple in China and resulted in a huge sales decline. To fill the gap, the firm said to bring ‘Intelligence’ to Chinese customers in 2025 with interesting enhancements and capabilities.
Apple is now exploring ways to introduce AI benefits in China, and DeepSeek R1 could be the ultimate solution. The company may integrate the Chinese AI model into new iPhones. Being a native AI tech, it can easily fit into the country’s regulations.

DeepSeek is also cheaper and easier to operate, unlike Western AI options. It offers a better experience than its rivals like ChatGPT and Gemini. Hence, the company may use this AI technology for its upcoming iPhones (only in China).
But there’s a catch!
The tipster adds that Apple may only bring AI support to China with iOS 19. In other words, Chinese iPhone customers have to wait a little longer to grab Apple’s AI experience on their handsets.
Apple has reportedly started internal testing of Apple Intelligence based on the DeepSeek AI model. Things will get more clear on this aspect in the coming days.
