Large Language AI model Honor

Honor is exploring the possibilities of using a large language model (LLM) in smartphones, revealed CEO, Zhao Ming during an interview at MWC Shanghai 2023.

According to the information, Zhao mentioned that his company is searching the areas of harnessing artificial intelligence large language models on devices to achieve new innovations.

At the event, Honor CEO confirmed that Honor Magic V2 will be released in Beijing on July 12. And called on the entire industry to work together to break the status quo of Apple being the only one.

Zhao mentioned that Honor will take the lead in AI large-scale models to the end side to create more personalized, humanized, and privacy-protected products. Honor smartphones will use this to adapt features including multi-modal interactions, precise intent recognition, and complex task closed up loop.

“New AI and communications technologies are fueling a new wave of smartphone innovation, creating virtually limitless possibilities for us to explore. It is our responsibility as a company to embrace these opportunities and continue to push the boundaries of what is possible with smartphones,” Zhao said at the ongoing Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2023.

Past use of AI:

Honor CEO shared the past use of AI in smartphones starting with Honor Magic (first generation), launched in 2016. The phone brings features such as smart suggestions to provide a new user experience.

The phone was unveiled with Kirin 950 flagship chipset, which provides optimum performance. For example, the phone auto wake up or turn off the display, as soon as it is picked up or put down. On the other hand, the wisescreen feature requires verifying face biometrics in order to view the content of an active notification.

All of these functionalities have been led by Huawei for Honor. Post separation, Honor fueled more AI technologies in its smartphone and empowered GPU Turbo X, Link Turbo X, Honor Eye Camera, and more. Last year, Honor took more steps on this matter and launched MagicOS, which is said to integrate new AI technologies.

Honor Magic V2:

With all of these revelations, we could come to an understanding that Honor Magic V2 is likely to be the first mass-produced smartphone to come with a large AI model. Therefore, it would be interesting to see how it goes for the former Huawei subsidiary.
