Now when the Huawei has officially announced the existence of HarmonyOS/Hongmeng OS there is some new information that we’ve learned about this OS’s initial use.

Hongmeng OS 1.0 will be unveiled on August 10, version 2.0 next year and so on

Harmony OS will be first used for smart devices such as Smartwatches, Smart Screens, In-vehicle systems, and Smart speakers. More platforms will be added later.

As for the smartphones, Yu Chengdong, Huawei’s Consumers Business Group CEO said the company has considered using Android over the Hongmeng for its smartphones due to its vast ecosystem but he also said Huawei’s OS is faster than Android and if the company is banned from Google’s OS the company will use Harmony for its smartphones as well.

The first version of HarmonyOS will be launched on August 10, 2019, with Honor Smart Screen at Huawei Developer Conference and the system will be improved with each version.

According to Huawei, the Harmony OS is a new microkernel-based, distributed operating system designed to deliver a cohesive user experience across all devices and scenarios.
