Last year, Apple introduced iPhone 14 Pro with pill shape display cutout dubbed “Dynamic Island” but do you know that Huawei registered such a screen type even before its American rival? Here’s everything you need to know.
Huawei filed a “Display Design” patent application at the Chinese State Intellectual Property Office (CNIPA) back in May 2018. The application was approved on June 18, 2019, with registration number CN305222252S.
The patent is categorized to use for video, image, text, icon, and other data information. But the sketches inside reveal more than just some words.
It contains different placements for pill shape screen cutouts including – left, center, and right positions. As of now, Huawei already used side punch hole designs in smartphones but the center cutout is not seen in a mass-produced device.
A leaked screenshot shows two implications of the new pill shape display design. These are “equal width on all sides”, and the other is “extremely narrow on the left and right sides”, which seems to be foreshadowing for the Huawei Mate 60 series.
Last year, Apple introduced the new iPhone 14 series with a center-placed pill shape cutout in the Pro and Pro Max. With this release, Apple also removed that wide notch on these two models. The iOS software is also optimized around the new notch with various features.
This year, Huawei will unveil the new Mate series flagship devices with this new screen. Additionally, Huawei also tuning its HarmonyOS software to provide an interactive experience.
Huawei has its own expertise in display medication and its own dynamic island will compete with Apple in many ways.
