Intel chips Huawei challenges

Intel has reportedly overcome challenges that have been preventing it from selling its chips to Huawei. The information reveals that one of the world’s largest chipmaker now obtained more time to sell its processors to the Chinese company.

So far, the Biden administration has been trying to cancel the license of Intel that allowed it to ship its powerful chipset to Huawei. The details point out that the chip producer received this special approval for selling its chips under Trump’s ruling era.

Later, one of Intel’s opponents – AMD (Advanced Micro Devices), defended this subject saying that it was unfair treatment for other semiconductor firms. It is so because when AMD tried to issue a license on this matter in 2021, it did not obtain permission.

Eventually, AMD began making efforts to cease sales of other chipmakers to the Chinese tech giant. This seems to be a stressful point for both Intel and Huawei. One of the Canalys analysts – Emma Xu kept her points on this matter:

“The majority of the CPUs used in Huawei’s laptops are still from Intel, so any further limitation on it would make Huawei’s laptop offering quite challenging.”

It is worth mentioning that Huawei laptops running on AMD chips saw a decline from 47.1% in 2020 to 9.3% in the first half of 2023. On the other hand, Huawei PCs with Intel chips increased from 52.9% to 90.7% in the same duration.

But as of now, Intel has received some more time to sell its millions of dollars worth of chips to Huawei, despite several challenges. This is a piece of good news for both the Chinese tech company and chipmaker as they are now saved from a huge loss.
