U.S. reportedly permits Japan’s Kioxia to export server chips to Huawei

In May 2019, the US government added Huawei to the entity-list and restricts the American companies to supply Huawei. The U.S. then further extended the chip restriction on the Chinese tech giant that prevented it from accessing important chip supplies made by foreign companies.

Recently, it was reported that Qualcomm has obtained the license to supply 4G chipsets to Huawei. On the other hand, Qualcomm has also applied for a 5G license but yet to receive a node.

In October, Japanese memory chipmaker Kioxia has applied for US permission to sell Huawei. Now, Nikkei Asia reported that Kioxia has received the license to export server chips to Huawei.

This license permits Kioxia to supply commercial chips for data center servers but it doesn’t include flash memory chips for smartphones. However, the license will not resume all of Kioxia’s business with Huawei but, it enhances the chance for future listing.

In the past, the US allows other companies like Intel, Samsung, Sony, and LG to supply Huawei as well as SK Hynix, MediaTek, and more are applied for permission. Read more
