Huawei published a statement on the recent news about the “Petal Payment” system renamed from Xunlian Zhipay. Ma Chuanyong, President of Huawei’s Terminal Cloud Service Payment Business Group said previously that Huawei Pay is not in competition with WeChat Pay or AliPay.

Both of these services are for third-party use cases and the company is already in partnership with WeChat and Alipay for products and research. He also mentioned that Huawei is basically focused on improving its user’s experience of payment services for Huawei smartphones.

While talking about future growth, Ma underlined the development of Huawei Pay and its deep integration into the HarmonyOS ecosystem. This integration helps third-party payment systems such as AliPay and WeChat Pay to provide fast and seamless payments for Huawei users.

On October 13, 2023, the People’s Bank of China updated the license information for Xunlian Zhipay Network to Huawei “Petal Payment”. In 2021, there was a change in Shenzhen Xunlian Zhipay Network Co., Ltd, a Chinese licensed payment system, and Huawei became a shareholder. Read more below.
