Huawei plans to launch a 7 nm EUV Kirin 985 chips in the first half of 2019, expected to debut on Huawei Mate 30

Huawei is preparing to launch its new 7nm processor, the Kirin 985, in the first half of 2019. This will be the successor to the Kirin 980, a source from Taiwan told.

According to our source, Huawei plans to launch the Kirin 985, which is an application processor (AP) manufactured through a 7 nanometer (nm) extreme ultraviolet (EUV) chips, in the first half of this year. The processor is expected to go into the Huawei Mate 30 flagship series.

The Kirin 985 is manufacturing by TSMC – the Kirin 980 was also mass-produced by the same Taiwanese foundry using a 7nm process. TSMC is also rushing to mass produce the Kirin 985 with a 7 nm EUV process.



Huawei is already testing the Mate 30 series, could launch in September or October

Taiwanese TSMC recently completed the construction of semiconductor design infrastructure to be used in a 5 nm processor.

Huawei’s Kirin 980 is a 64-bit high-performance mobile ARM LTE SoC designed by HiSilicon and introduced in August 2018.
