Huawei P70 series periscope lens rumored to be better than OV64B camera sensor
Huawei is looking forward to advanced camera solutions for the flagship P70 series and a customized periscope lens could be one of them with better capabilities than the OV64B sensor. The OEM seems to focus on every lens detail for the next P-series.
Weibo blogger @FixedFocus says that Huawei is likely to adopt a new customized periscope camera for the P70 series which may surpass the current OV64B sensor.
OV64B Camera Sensor
The Omnivision OV64B camera sensor claims to be the world’s first 0.7 micron 64MP imaging lens. It is useful for ultra-thin premium devices. The respective sensor stands on PureCel Plus-S stacked die technology and a quad-cell color filter array.
Further, the OV64B supports 2 x 2 microlens phase detection autofocus (ML-PDAF) to amplify the autofocus accuracy and offer better results under low light conditions.

However, it looks like the Chinese OEM is searching for the latest and innovative periscope camera solutions for the approaching P70 models. The details reveal that a new upgraded periscope is under development by Howe (Haowei).
Ahead, the tipster mentioned that this solution may only show up with the high-end models of the lineup (P70 Pro and P70 Art). Meanwhile, the periscope segment could remain unchanged for the standard Huawei P70 with 5x optical zoom.
In addition, the tipster mentioned that the major selling point of the new Huawei P70 series could be AI imaging. Thus, photography could be the main focus of the next P-series.

It may highlight dynamic AI features with a powerful ultra-wide shooter, new primary snappers with variable aperture, better superzoom, and a new XMAGE imaging algorithm.
Previous Reports
Several leaks and rumors have predicted the camera specifications of the Huawei P70 series. The base version is hearsay to use an OV50H main camera sensor. Whereas, the Art version is likely to opt for the IMX 989 primary camera with a hybrid lens.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also shed light on the optical segment and said that these P-tagged models will use an upgraded powerful ultra-wide camera. In short, we may find exclusive lens treatments for the new P70 lineup.
