Huawei Mate 70 series expected to use new OmniVision CMOS camera sensor

Huawei could equip its next flagship phone, the Mate 70 series with a new OmniVision CMOS camera sensor, says a tipster related to this matter. As per the information, the lens supplier is working on a distinct product with powerful imaging capabilities.

Tipster @BeijingDigitalMaster has brought a new leak about the Mate 70 series camera details. He says that OmniVision will likely release a brand-new CMOS camera sensor in the fourth quarter of this year, and Huawei Mate 70 will probably use it.

The Chinese phone maker has used OmniVision-made camera sensors for several top-end devices. Pura 70 series and Nova 12 models with OV50H lenses are good examples.

But this time, the OEM may switch to a different and robust OmniVision camera sensor for the next Mate handsets with more efficient and better imaging features.

What are CMOS sensors?

Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) can easily convert light into electrical signals to produce images. It extracts light captured by a lens as electrical signals for each pixel. These signals are processed with the analog-to-digital converter.

Benefits: Compared to other sensors, CMOS requires less sensitivity and offers less noise in images. It excels in image resolution despite its size or pixels. Also, these sensors are cost-effective and provide high resolution at low power consumption.

As a result, photography lovers get more detailed pictures with greater clarity at a fast readout speed, without sacrificing their smartphone’s battery life.

Some early inputs predicted that the base version of the Mate 70 lineup may continue the adoption of the OV50H sensor. Thus Huawei might use the alleged OmniVision CMOS camera sensor for the high-end models of the respective phone series.

Leaks also hinted that Mate 70 devices could sport a new OV50K 1-inch main camera sensor which is again a recent creation of the lens supplier. If true, it would be worth seeing how the company distributes these lenses on the upcoming models.
