In Huawei Mate 30 Pro, Huawei removed physical volume rocker and placed the volume controls virtually on the side of the curved display.

This new feature is much appreciated by the consumers and now the company seems to be working on an improved virtual key controls system that we may see in its upcoming flagship.

According to Letsgodigital, CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration) has recently approved a patent field by Huawei about new virtual touch control supporting more features compared to Huawei Mate 30 Pro, and a new camera system.

The patent mainly shows the camera app user interface, which now includes most of its controls on the edge of the display, similar to the virtual volume controls.

Starting from the top side, it has a zoom in and out icons (+ and -), followed by a flash switch, filter selection, and white balance settings. The interface also adds an icon to switch between front and rear cameras. Also, the last icon works as the shutter button.

There’s also a second interface design, which also has + and – adjustment icons. Below that, there’s an HDR icon, LED flash, White Balance, PIC, and the shutter button.

Side Touch Camera Interface

Huawei Mate 30 Pro features an 88-degree curved edge Horizon display, while the phone has no physical volume adjustment keys. Instead, the phone’s display works as a touch density controls and users can adjust the sound by double-tapping on the side of the display.

This virtual touch interaction also replaces the requirement for a game controller and allows you to add two virtual keys on the edge of the screen. You have the power to pre-set the buttons to move, scope, aim, and shoot at the same time with quick and easy action of four finger/quad finger controls.

Moreover, the virtual side-touch also enables the user to put the camera shutter button on the edges of each side.

New Camera System:

Since Mate 20 series, Huawei has used a wide notch system on its Mate flagships. However, the patent image shows a narrow notch compared to Mate 30 Pro and features two selfie cameras. Also, the bottom side comprises USB-C port, speaker grills, and a primary mic.

The back of the device, has no camera system, which is kind of strange but it might relate to an invisible camera system that appears while triggered by the users.

Yes, it’s possible because the new transparent display system allows smartphone makers to go full view on the front while hiding the front camera under the display. The same technology could be used for the rear side but this type of display is not matured for the flagship use cases.

Currently, there’s no official evidence that Huawei will use this camera system in Huawei Mate 40 series but the chance of releasing the new virtual controls is very high.

According to the previous reports, Huawei Mate 40 series could be unveiled in October with feature new camera technologies and 5nm Kirin 1000 chipset.

We’ll keep you posted on this matter.
