Huawei inaugurated first Arm-based data center in Moscow, Russia

According to the latest information, Huawei has established the first ARM-based data center in Russia. It mainly started to provide access to Arm-based TaiShan servers to local customers.

The TaiShan server utilizes the Kunpeng 920 processor developed by Huawei’s semiconductor subsidiary, HiSilicon. Also, this data center was built by Huawei’s Intelligent Computing Systems Department in Moscow, Russia.

Regarding this, Huawei said that the Russian scientific and academic community are using the facility to optimize open source solutions and supercomputing development. The construction of the new facility indicates the company’s aim to develop software products in Russia.

Kunpeng 920 Processor:

In 2019, Huawei launched the Kunpeng 920 processor along with the first ARM-based server CPU to deliver higher performance. This processor was based on ARMv8 architecture, the 7nm Kunpeng 920 comes with 64 cores and operates at 2.6GHz, with eight channels of DDR4 memory.

To be mentioned, Huawei has promised $1.5 billion to help develop Arm-native applications in an effort to help it overcome sanctions. Last month, the Chinese tech firm announced it was working with Sitronics to develop hardware that meets domestic localization requirements.

In addition, the Nikiya Solodun intelligent computing systems expert at Huawei Russia stated that:-

“The computing cluster will enable our partners and customers to test their software products, to join the construction of a new open ecosystem”

“Prior to the commissioning of this data center, we had to spend resources on the delivery of equipment and deployment of servers at the customer’s sites, now it is possible to provide both remote and local access to equipment with virtually no time delays.”

ARM Processor:

Huawei said however the ARM processor are dominant in mobile technology but it can be a replacement to the x86 architecture in the data centers. On the other hand, Ampere, Fujitsu, and Microsoft are also preparing to launch ARM CPUs for the server market.

Huawei Russia’s Intelligent Computing System Department Director- Liu Yu said:

“High-performance Arm cores have proven themselves well not only in tasks with numerous parallel computing, such as big data, virtualization systems, databases, storage systems, but also other tasks.

The tests carried out have shown that in a number of scenarios Arm servers can already compete fully with solutions based on the x86 architecture,” said Liu Yu.

Furthermore, Arm can be acquired by US cooperation Nvidia if regulators will let it, which could also make this matter more complicated.

Huawei to bring new VR head mounted technology: Patent

Huawei is working on new a new VR technology, it’ll add more advanced devices to the company’s collection. In this line, the company has released a new patent, which recently gets the approval of the Chinese Intellectual Property Database. It’ll be a lightweight VR head unit and will release the pressure while wearing the device.

As per the information, Huawei applied for a patent entitled “a head-mounted display and virtual reality system” back in March 2019. Now, it has passed the examination phase and the company has published it with the publication number CN111694152B in China on  14 September 2021.

The patent abstract shows, the described head-mounted display will make the users interact with virtual reality. Furthermore, during the time wearing the head unit users won’t feel much pressure and can enjoy the work with more comfort.

Huawei VR Technology Patent Description:

The application describes that the device will have a main head unit module, two magnetic arrangements, and integrated technologies. Furthermore, the first magnet won’t be dependent on the head unit body. Meanwhile, the second magnet structure will be used for opposite forces.

Thus, this magnetic arrangement will provide the head modules a skyward magnetic force. The technology will be in the virtual reality applications that will provide less pressure.

In June 2021 Huawei Headheld and HeadPositioner (VR) have passed Bluetooth SIG certification with model numbers Par-CG013 and Par-CG012 respectively. Both models will work on Bluetooth 5.0. However, the company hasn’t revealed any further information yet.

Huawei Rollable phone meets Gestures navigation, Nice

In the past, we’ve seen a number of new Huawei patents and designs about rollable phones. Compared to the foldable design, the rollable phone extends outwards from within a regular phone size.

However, new patents continue to appear. In the latest edition, LetsGoDigital has found a new rollable phone design that was filed in February 2020 at World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The patent is titled ‘An apparatus and a method for a controllable foldable display with haptic and sound effect’. The 38-page documentation was approved and released on September 2, 2021.

Aside from its design, the new patent has new hand gestures called Freehand Gesture Control. To conduct such controls, a virtual slider is shown on the screen.

The extended display will be accompanied by haptic feedback (screen vibration) and a sound effect. The advantage of this display extension sound compensates for the noise generated during the rolling process.

Not only that, there are plenty of hand movements that users can make to enjoy a seamless gestures movement across this futuristic device. These includes:

  • Swipe above to roll in or out
  • A movement to the right to unroll or left to retract

Manage Roll Speed:

The gestures are so advanced, they could even allow users to manage the speed of the rollout and roll back-in process detected by the use of the finger count and is detected by a motion sensor or a camera module. This is quite interesting and is surely futuristic to see that happen.

Realistic Concept Video:

Huawei Mate Rollable appears to be a normal smartphone at first sight. But it has the ability to expand into tablet-like big screen size. Unlike the foldable, the rollable smartphone can increase or decrease the area of its display by rolling in and out.

The phone’s front design looks identical to any regular smartphone, yet it can expand to a large tablet at an instance. Unlike a foldable device, the Rollable phone can expand outwards by taking a limited space. Through this mechanism, a 6.5-inch panel can expand to an 11-inch screen.

Huawei publishes multi-screen interactive patent for smart cars

Huawei has shared a new patent multi-screen interactive technology for smart cars. It was applied back on the 26th of April this year and has published with the publication number CN113330395A in China.

The patent entitled “a method, device, terminal equipment, and vehicle for multi-screen interaction” revolves around smart car technology. The method described in the patent uses a high-definition camera and specific gestures to derive multi-screen interaction.

Working Method:

As per the described approach, at first, the camera analyses a pre-defined specific gesture and captures the command. Afterward, the carried content represents on the first display screen in sub-images alongside other sub-images on the screen.

With this projection on the first screen and derived information, the users can easily presume the movement direction of subsequent gestures. After that, the same procedure is followed for the second screen and controls the sub-images presenting on the first display screen.

Thus, the display screen moves according to the gestures. But when the distance between the gestures and system reaches out of range, the sub-images shift on the second display screen and carries out the multi-screen interactive function.
