HiSilicon, the chipset designing division of Huawei is preparing a new strategy to overcome U.S. sanctions by recruiting skilled professionals in chipset designing technologies, a market that is currently dominated by U.S. firms. The preparations make sense as the Chinese tech giant ventures to make things possible on its own.

A report from Bloomberg reveals that Huawei HiSilicon is hiring new talents to develop technologies that could not be accessed easily after U.S. sanctions.

The Chinese tech maker wants to advance in Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tech, which is a market segment consisting of software, hardware, and services with the collective goal of assisting in the definition, planning, design, implementation, verification, and the subsequent manufacturing of semiconductor devices, or chips.

According to the report, HiSilicon has advertised to hire 50 roles for the next-generation computing and manufacturing technologies. However, the report mentions the HiSilicon post on the WeChat account, a Chinese messaging app. Also, the post has later been removed from the sourced URL.

Based on the WeChat post, the report further notes that Huawei HiSilicon has opened these to develop in-house chipset designing tools known as electronic design automation software and technologies, a type of product that could be found either from U.S.-based Cadence or Synopsys.

However, after 2019, U.S. Entity List, Huawei cannot purchase or sell new products from U.S.-based tech firms. Afterward, Huawei has to rely on old equipment or software to print the latest ones from homeland chipset manufacturers.

The job description post reads that all of the candidates will be required for a job “researching advanced EDA technologies. Other than this, another post for the job reads requirement for talent to participate in EDA development projects that achieve “breakthroughs in core chip technologies.

Currently, Huawei has not disclosed the number for this role but it’s for sure that there are multiple people required to fill in the posts for this responsibility.

Already done before:

It’s not the first time, that Hisilicon has posted such a promo, as it already run a talent acquisition campaign in the past few months. But the recruitment of highly skilled new researchers is a thing of something new.

This move is for sure a step forward for the HiSilicon as it ascends into the world and prepares to overcome the American sanctions by developing its own solutions. Still, the road is long but the Chinese tech maker could be ready with its expertise in technologies and HiSilicon’s long-running experience in chipset designing could help to make it happen in the near future.

Meanwhile, we want to commit that Huawei has not confirmed any such news via official channels on Weibo or on Twitter but we’ll keep you posted if it appears.
