HarmonyOS PC GPU upgrades

Huawei may make a bold move by supporting Windows apps on its first-ever HarmonyOS PC. New input says the company’s PC-dedicated OS will allow some Windows apps to run effectively, unlike the Android treatment on HarmonyOS NEXT.

The HarmonyOS PC is expected to debut in the first half of this year. It will be Huawei’s first home-grown PC software with enhanced features and OS capabilities.

Being the sibling of HarmonyOS NEXT, the PC-dedicated software was said to ditch Windows support completely. But it looks like that won’t be the case here.

FixedFocus reveals that Huawei will unlock Windows apps compatibility for HarmonyOS PC. It will probably admit certain Windows-based applications to run smoothly on its computer software. However, all apps are unlikely to get this treatment.

Just like the native HarmonyOS, Huawei may also open a HarmonyOS PC app ecosystem in the time ahead. Currently, HarmonyOS NEXT does not support Android or its apps. Although there’s a way to run Android apps on the native software.

The company seemingly aims to expand its user base. Huawei introduced HarmonyOS NEXT with the Mate 70 and Mate X6 models last year. Though both these lineups support two software versions: HarmonyOS 4.3 and the NEXT 5.0.

Users wanting to experience the native software had jumped to the 5.0 build while others using Android apps remain on the 4.3 versions. Following this analysis, the company may keep certain Windows apps compatible with the HarmonyOS PC for consumers’ convenience.

It is unclear how far the latest leak is accurate. Perhaps we have to wait for the official announcement on this matter to get the correct details and features info.

Early revelations hint that HarmonyOS PC may go live in H1 2025. The tech giant has started launch preparations for its new software but didn’t make any official statement yet. We may hit clarity on this topic in the coming days.
