Huawei denies reports of reducing smartphone production

On May 17, Huawei has acquired, Vocord, a technology firm specialized on developing facial recognition technologies operated from Russia, with the signing amount of $50 million, reported Vedomosti, citing a source related to the matter.

Under this acquisition, Huawei will get the rights to own the intellectual property rights of Vocord’s patents, equipment, and its employees to work for them.

Founded in 1999, Vocord is known for security system solutions for both private and public sectors including, Facial recognition, Surveillance, Video enhancement, and authentication as well as Audio recording.

Huawei is currently using face id in its Mate 20 Pro device that uses 3D depth sensing camera on the front but its performance is not smooth as Apple’s Face ID, therefore this acquisition will help the company to create a more powerful face id solution compared to Apple.
