HarmonyOS smartphones upgrade plan allegedly leaked, Kirin 9000 first and Kirin 990 devices in second batch

At Huawei Developer Conference 2020, Huawei confirmed that it will launch the first HarmonyOS AKA Hongmeng OS powered smartphone in 2021. And ahead of this launch, a list of alleged HarmonyOS supported devices has now appeared online and increased our excitement for the HarmonyOS smartphone even further.

According to a Weibo tipster, Huawei will initiate the upgrade process of HarmonyOS in smartphones with the following Kirin chipsets:

  • Kirin 9000 –  First batch
  • Kirin 990 5G –  Second batch
  • Kirin 990 4G (partial), 985, 820 (partial) – Third batch
  • Kirin 820 (partial), 980, 990 4G (partial) – Fourth batch
  • Kirin 810, 710 (partial) – Last batch

It’s best to know that not all of the phones with these devices will receive an upgrade to the HarmonyOS.

The lineup suggests that the upcoming Huawei Mate 40 series, which will pack with Kirin 9000 chipset, will be the first to get HarmonyOS upgrade. The second batch will include P40 and Mate 30 series equipped with Kirin 990 processors. Furthermore, there will also be Honor series devices that will appear on the list.

Meanwhile, it’s interesting to know that the leak also mentions a mid-range processor, Kirin 710 to support HarmonyOS. However, there’s no official confirmation available on such rollout plan for HarmonyOS.

Launched at HDC 2020, Huawei unveiled HarmonyOS 2.0. This new version of HarmonyOS comes with new platform supports such as smart wearables, tablets, head units, and even smartphones.

As per the official roadmap, HarmonyOS will first support devices with up to 128MB RAM, such as smart wearables and other IoT devices. In 2021, It’ll support devices up to 4GB RAM, such as tablets and entry-level smartphones. By the end of 2021, this RAM limit will increase over 4GB and open a way for the support of flagship smartphones.

It visually displays flight and train information in the form of cards and supports flights and trains dynamic change reminders as well as covers the functions such as taxi navigation, weather, and alarm reminders.

  • Click the “download” button at the bottom of the page to download and install the public test version of the Travel Service.
  • After installation, do not enter the application through the “Open” button at the bottom of this page, return to the lower left or lower right corner of the desktop, and swipe the screen to enter the service center.
  • Search for “travel service” in the search box, the travel service application icon will pop up, long-press the icon to pop up the check box, and select the card mode “add to desktop”.

Add Travel Path:

Click “Start Experience” and agree to the privacy agreement to start the experience:

  • After receiving the booking text message, the travel service recognizes the text message and automatically adds the itinerary

HOW TO UPDATE:

Download via Settings:

  • Open Settings
  • Click on the System & Updates
  • Open Software update
  • Tap on Check for updates option
  • If an update is available, click on Download and install
  • After installation Reboot the device

Download via My Huawei app:

  • Open the My Huawei app on your device
  • Go to the Update
  • Follow the on-screen instructions

Update Notes:

  • Due to version restrictions, please upgrade to version 2.0.0.210 first, otherwise you will not receive the version rollout.
  • This version upgrade will not erase user data, but it is recommended to back up all important data to a PC or cloud before upgrading, and confirm that the backup content is complete and effective.
  • Because some third-party applications may not be compatible with the HarmonyOS operating system, the third-party app may not work normally after the update. It is recommended that you try to update the application to the latest version in the Huawei AppGallery.
  • After the upgrade is completed, the tablet may experience heating, freezing, or slow charging. This is caused by some self-optimization and adaptation actions performed by the system after the upgrade. Please rest assured to use it. It will return to normal after 2-3 days of normal use. It is recommended that you charge for more than 1 hour in idle time. During the charging period, the system will do optimization to ensure that the tablet application is quickly adapted.
  • After the update, there may be changes in your home screen layout, please adjust it manually.
  • This update needs to reserve 10GB of data space. The installation package will be automatically deleted after the update and does not occupy storage space

New optimization with 2.0.1.175 update rolling out for Huawei Nova 9 series [CN]

Huawei Nova 9 2.0.1.175 update

Huawei Nova 9 series that consisted of two models – Nova 9 and Nova 9 Pro is getting a new software update, which comes with upgraded HarmonyOS version 2.0.1.175. However, this update is rolling out gradually in the Chinese market.

On the other hand, Huawei Nova 9 global variant that runs on the latest EMUI 12 software system recently grabbed the EMUI 12.0.1.169 version. This update brought optimizations for the camera and added a shortcut icon for Celia Keyboard.

Talking about the new firmware, the Huawei Nova 9 HarmonyOS 2.0.1.175 update includes the optimizations for the camera for better image quality and display interface. Additionally, it improves the WeChat video call experience in some scenarios. [Full Changelog below]
