On June 20, 2019, Huawei has applied for a new patent at CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration).  The new patent is for “method and equipment for repairing glass scratches”, which was passed and published on December 22, 2020.

The description of the patent shows the repairing method of scratched screen glass. First, the preparing equipment detects the scratch on screen glass. If the scratch detects on the main screen then it will be cleaned with alcohol or if on the back screen cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaner.

After cleaning, the preparing machine drop repair liquid on scratch, which is a mixture of 35-45% of acrylate, 50-60% of epoxy resin, 2-3% of initiator, and 2-3% of additives. After that, the repairing liquid automatically covers the transparent film, and with the help of a rubber roller, the repairing spread the liquid evenly on the transparent film. At last, the 320~420nm UV light used to irradiate and cure to form a resin repair layer.

Also, the patent shows that the adhesive force of the repair solution on the glass surface should be greater than its adhesive force on the transparent film so that the resin repair layer will not be damaged when the film is peeled off.

In today’s scenario, most smartphones come with tempered glass so, there is a risk of scratches on screen glass in daily use. However, the third-party repairs the glass by using polish, which damages the glass surface coating.
