Breaking: Huawei Hongmeng OS 2.0 developer beta opens for Mate 40 series, Mate X2 and Smart Screen S series devices

Last December, Huawei began the HarmonyOS 2.0 Mobile developer beta recruitment for devices including Huawei P40, Mate 30, and MatePad Pro devices. Following the recruitment, Huawei also started to rollout HarmonyOS 2.0 mobile developer updates to the select testers.

According to the latest information, Huawei has now decided to extend the HarmonyOS 2.0 mobile developer beta activity for the Huawei Mate X2 foldable phone, Huawei Mate 40, and Huawei Smart Screen S devices. These are the new addition to the developer activity for the initial testing models.

As of now, Huawei has rolled out three HarmonyOS 2.0 mobile developer beta builds to the selected Huawei models, which has brought substantial optimizations to the users.

HarmonyOS 2.0 developer beta version has improved the following features:

15000+ APIs (support the development of mobile phone/PAD, large screen, wearable, car, and machine applications)

  • Distributed application framework
  • Distributed UI controls
  • DevEco Studio 2.0 Beta 3

Launch in April:

In February, Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO, Richard Yu, confirmed that the HarmonyOS will be in the first batch of devices to test HarmonyOS 2.0 mobile developer beta. He also confirmed that Huawei will launch HarmonyOS in April this year, beginning with its beta testing.

At Dr. Wang ChengluHuawei Consumer BG Software Engineering Dept President and AI and All-scenario Intelligence Business Unit Director confirmed that Huawei will install HarmonyOS in 300 million devices by 2021.

Furthermore, Huawei vice-chairman and rotating chairman Hu Houkun said HarmonyOS has partnered with over 20 hardware makers and 280 app developers to participate in the HarmonyOS ecosystem development.
