Following Xiaomi Mi 6, the 2018’s OnePlus 6T has now been spotted running the HarmonyOS operating system, which is a very interesting development despite some initial performance issues.

A Chinese developer has shared a video of the OnePlus 6T running open-source HarmonyOS (OpenHarmony). It supports start animation, and touch interactions but other features are to come into action.

Details revealed by the developer show that OnePlus 6T has the latest OpenHarmonyOS 3.2 Beta 5, and the kernel is based on Linux 6.1. It also supports OpenHarmony mainline 5.10 kernel (but it wasn’t used).

The developer spotted the following outcome of the installation.

OpenHarmony is only a preliminary adaptation and is not suitable for use in this device. This was only for learning purposes. Your testing device could be bricked into testing.

Although it has been adapted to initially support the GPU, it has not utilized the 2D graphics acceleration feature. Therefore, the general use of operations is still very slow, and the experience package will be released after slowly optimizing.

The developer also shared a complete guide on how to install OpenHarmony on your smartphone, and briefly explain some requirements and problems of flashing.

Aside from these, the video shows how the software is working on OnePlus 6T, the lags are clearly visible, as the phone is pre-packed with Android but there’s still able to respond quite decent.

As the display and response actions are only barred by unsupported 2D graphics systems.

OnePlus 6T sports a 6.41-inch display with HD+ resolution and is powered by an octa-core processor. The phone equips a dual rear camera system combination of 16MP and 20MP, while there’s one 16MP camera equipped on the front side.

This phone packs a 3700mAh battery that could recharge with a fast charger. It was one of the most appreciated OnePlus devices and it is running HarmonyOS, which is worth praising.
