Smartphone makers are using various solutions to achieve a light design and provide a better user experience. It seems like Huawei has found a new graphene heat dissipation tech to usher a major change in its smartphone weight and battery capacity.

While sharing the patent, tipster Classmateguan mentioned that Huawei has developed a new type of carbon material that can provide heat dissipation solutions for smartphones.

It’s revealed the material has the highest thermal diffusivity of 1100mm/s, the thinnest up to 0.1mm, and the highest breaking strength of 80MPa.

With these specs, the graphene technology could easily enhance the heat dissipation capability of the Huawei smartphone better than its predecessor.

Other than heat dissipation, this tech will also help to reduce the thickness of the entire device.

The tipster further mentioned that Huawei will use this technology with the upcoming Huawei Mate X3 foldable phone and the design is almost the thinnest in the foldable phone industry. Despite its light design, the phone will pack a bigger battery.

Patent:

Looking at the patent, Huawei filed an application with CN113929074 on October 30, 2021, and it was published on January 1st, 2022. The patent has the title “Carbon materials and their applications”.

The technical summary of the patent follows:

Embodiments of the present application provide a carbon material and its application. The carbon material includes multi-layer stacked carbon atomic layers. Internal thermal diffusivity ≥ 750mm²/s.

The carbon material in the embodiment of the present application controls the interlayer rotation stacking ratio of its carbon atomic layer to be ≥ 20% through a specific process so that the carbon material has a high in-plane thermal diffusivity, which can meet the heat dissipation requirements of high heat flux devices.

This application also provides electronic equipment, cooling modules, battery systems, and semiconductor structures containing carbon material.

Coming with Mate X3?

Past leaks and reports hint that Huawei Mate X3 will come with an increased 4700mAh capacity battery and reduced thickness as compared to Mate X2.

This new achievement could only come after a major change and this new graphene heat dissipation technology may be a breakthrough for Huawei to achieve the aim.
