Kirin 9000s:

Back in August, Huawei released the Huawei Mate 60 Pro flagship without any major launch event. The phone received a major response from consumers in China on the back of new design and communication capabilities.

Third-party teardown reports from TechInsights found that the phone is using a Kirin chipset. Since 2020, Huawei has been banned from printing new chipsets via Taiwan’s TSMC.

Thereafter, the company stopped pursuing Kirin chipsets, which are designed by Huawei’s chipsets designing subsidiary, HiSilicon.

The teardown claims that the new chipset is printed by SMIC, China’s largest semiconductor printing company. However, there are some doubts about the processing node technology and which equipment the firm used to make the wafer.

The launch of Kirin 9000s made many headlines and also attracted the attention of the US Commerce Department’s chief Gina Raimondo. She later said that Huawei can’t grow further in advanced chipsets and neither it can produce a high quantity of the current chip.

Furthermore, the mystery around the Kirin 9000s remains and Huawei is not promoting this chip on official launch events.
