On September 17, Huawei in a press release announced that its new chipset – Kirin 990 series will be available in India with the launch of upcoming Huawei Smartphones including the 5G version.

“As one of Huawei’s key markets, Customer-centric innovation is at the heart of everything we do in India. We have always believed in bringing the very best to our consumers by continuously focusing on innovation and making the experience better, every single time,” said Tornado Pan, country manager (Huawei Brand), Consumer Business.

“The Kirin 990 is the very pinnacle of smartphone technology today and will leapfrog consumers into a new era of 5G. We are glad to announce a chipset that will revolutionize the way people use their smartphones,” he added.

Huawei has already announced that the Mate 30 phones will be the first to be equipped with Kirin 990 series for both 4G and 5G variants. So we can expect that these are the smartphones that will bring Kirin 990 to India.

However, there are a few things that you need to know that the Indian telecoms are yet to begin trials for 5G. So, there’s no question about a 5G supported device to launch in the country, at least for now.

Another possibility is that the press release may have included the global launch information of 5G instead of only 4G variants for India but we cannot confirm this guess.

Currently, Huawei has officially promised to bring this new chipset in India but we can expect to get more information when the Mate 30 series will officially be launched in the country. As its global unveiling is set for September 19 in Munich, Germany.
