Huawei has a huge reputation in the field of technology as the company dominates the major key business areas including network, cloud, consumer business, and more. However, in the past few years, Huawei has seen a drastic decline in its strength in one of the major markets, India.

For the last two years, Huawei has not launched a new flagship phone or any major device among Indian consumers. On the other hand, the Indian government has remained neutral on Huawei’s participation in the 5G trials.

Meanwhile, Jay Chen, Vice-President of Huawei Asia-Pacific recently gave his statement to BusinessLine and said, Huawei will not leave the Indian market regardless of the government’s final decision.

“From the Huawei perspective, we have never changed our strategy for the Indian market. From the very beginning until today…we have considered the Indian market as one of the most important and strategic markets. And, regarding the Indian government’s action, until now, we are very closely monitoring, following up and engaging with the government,” said Chen.

“Whatever happens, we will never leave India and will continue our business in India,” he added.

In May 2019, Huawei has been added to the U.S. Entity List, which alleges the company for spying on the customers and says the company is linked to the Chinese government. On the other hand, Huawei has denied these allegations. After the U.S. entity list, the U.S. government asked partner countries to ban Huawei on their markets but many of them refused to so.

Huawei Asia chief said that 2020 was an uncertain year for businesses around the globe, but from Huawei’s perspective, the company has never changed its strategy for the Indian market and has a very solid place in cooperation with Indian partners.

“For the past 20 years that we have been in India, we believe the partnership and harmony have only grown with our partners and the industry. No matter what happens, we believe the cooperation will be there. We have never planned or had thoughts to leave India…we will stay with a long-term strategy in the Indian market,” Chen explained.

Furthermore, Huawei also shown its interest in the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for telecom equipment manufacturers.
