Huawei Watch 3 series gets April 2023 security update

Huawei is rolling out April 2023 security update for the Huawei Watch 3 series in the global market. This latest software update comes amid the company has introduced a successor to the watch series after two years.

The latest firmware only aims at optimizing the device’s security aspects. However, we urge all of the Watch 3 series owners to grab it as soon as it appears in the notification area. Or you can just give a visit to Huawei Health app to check the new firmware.

Huawei Watch 3 April 2023 security patch:

According to the details in the security bulletin, Huaewi has fixed CVE-2022-48314 for Bluetooth vulnerability. This issue could cause exploitation of the smartwatch and affect HarmonyOS version 3.0/3.1/2.1/2.0.1/2.0.0.

Since most of Huawei’s new smartwatches run the HarmonyOS operating system including the Huawei Watch 3 series, the company is sending these improvements to all of them. April 2023 HarmonyOS security patch for wearables also includes fixes for application issues and several other security threats found in third-party libraries.

Build Version:

Huawei Watch 3 is receiving April 2023 security with software version 3.0.0.159 and an update package size of 269 megabytes. This update is rolling out in batches and may take some time to reach all of the users.

Following HarmonyOS 3 upgrade, Huawei has started showing security patch details in the changelog. This could be a major change as the company is treating the security of its wearables as a high priority.

Successor:

On May 9th, Huawei launched Huawei Watch 4 series, which comes with various new technologies over the Watch 3 models. These include a 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED screen, which is larger than the predecessor.

Important:

For a better user experience, first, you are advised to update the Huawei Health app to the latest version via AppGallery. Then ensure that the watch remains connected to the network during the update procedure. It’s suggested to retry if the update fails.

You should also know that the upgrade phase may take some time. Therefore, you should wait until the installation completes. After a successful upgrade, the Watch 3 device will restart automatically.
