Huawei was the biggest mobile camera lens importer in China before the company was hit with a U.S. ban, says a report. This report doesn’t surprise us, as it shows the importance and the ability of the Chinese tech giant ahead of getting restrictions from the U.S. commerce department.

The latest findings are coming from a report generated by the well-known Ming-Chi Kuo is an analyst at TF International Securities. It shows that Huawei was the largest mobile lens importer in China and accounted for 30 to 40 percent of the overall lens sold by Largan in terms of revenue.

Largan Precision, the world’s top producer of smartphone camera lenses, has been the leading partner of Huawei and has been developing lenses for the Chinese tech giant for a long time.

Post Huawei ban, the Chinese tech maker has lost a big chunk of its smartphone market. The aftermath of this entire scenario brought in low sales and low manufacturing due to the restrictions on component imports.

Huawei isn’t the only one that got lost from the U.S. ban but its partners have also been struck into a big haul that is not easy to fill since other smartphone makers have low yields of camera specs. However, more phone manufacturers are joining the race by bringing new phones packed with loads of camera specs.

Still, Huawei is a leader in smartphone technology and it has proved the same theory many times with its flagship camera smartphones such as Huawei P50, Mate 40, and P40 series. Therefore, the Chinese company runs on a league of its own.

Largan Recent Agreement signing:

For the first time, Largan has signed a long-term agreement (LTA) with a certain line of Chinese phone makers. Before signing the contract, Largan’s lens shipments for the brand in 2022 will be reduced by approximately 15-20% YoY (year-on-year), and after the contract, it will be significantly improved to an increase of 20% YoY.

In 2022, Largan’s growth drivers from new orders include Tesla, Meta Universe, and iPhone lens upgrades, and VCM. Benefiting from Tesla’s rapid growth, Largan’s Tesla lens shipments in 2022 will increase by 70%-80% YoY.

Largan is the largest supplier of camera lenses for Apple’s AR/MR headsets and will continue to benefit from the growth of Metaverse hardware shipments in the future.

It is predicted that the new iPhone in the second half of 2022 (tentatively referred to as iPhone 14) will use 48MP and the new iPhone in the second half of 2023 will use the periscope lens.

Largan’s iPhone VCM has been shipped since 2H21 and will continue to contribute revenue and profit in 2022. It is predicted that Largan will expand the production of VCM in 2023 and will help increase its market share.
